into the distance waters. Expectation was on alert - where are they?
Slowly the day lifted and in the distant a tall vessel came into focus.
Silence prevailed as now the journey came toward the watcher, revealing
a fleet of 12 historical ships - the sight of which held awe, respect
and an appreciation of the nautical history. Majestic in their feature,
the proud arrival at the port of Sturgeon Bay in Door County, WI, was a
memorable moment along the shore at the Stone Harbor Resort, where
viewers watched as canons and musket shots announced the entry.
The 12 tall ships participating in the Baylake Bank Tall Ship
Festival, was held in downtown Green Bay, and the Sturgeon Bay's
"Parade of Sail" was escorted by the U.S. Coast Guard. A viewing party
also took place under the big top at Door County Maritime Museum. The
Sturgeon Bay High School Band performed as the ships arrived, and
cannon salutes from the museum and Bay Shipbuilding Co. greeted the day
as ships arrived at the Sturgeon Bay shipping channel.

Several of the ships included in the sail were foreign vessels: the
Roald Amundsen from Germany, and Europa from the Netherlands; plus
Niagara; Lynx; Appledore IV; Friends Good Will; Unicorn; Wisconsin’s
flagship S/V Denis Sullivan; Pride of Baltimore II; Roseway; La
Revenante; Royaliste; and the H.M.S. Bounty, which has been used in
movies, including Mutiny on the Bounty and Pirates of the Caribbean.
The Baylake Bank Parade of Sail was a celebration that brought
residents, visitors, and local businesses, as spectators who lined the
shores of the Sturgeon Bay shipping channel. There, as the ships sailed
thorough, the crowds cheered on the captains and crew.
